Proposal submitted to the European Union by the Lycée Robert Schuman in Haguenau, (Lower sixth form/eleventh grade class: ST2S)
Requests for transplants have increased over recent decades to the extent that a large number of patients are currently on waiting lists in Europe. All European countries are concerned by the demand for transplants. In order to encourage fraternity and solidarity among the peoples, it would be preferable to provide greater information for the various populations and to encourage debate within families. We need to facilitate exchanges (of donors, recipients and organs) between countries in order to avoid any attempts by organized criminal networks to exploit the current shortages. We should support the shared European values of free donation, anonymity and dialogue.
